6 tips for keeping your office is safe over the Christmas break
December 6, 2017 2:57 pmThis time a year the world is generally divided to people who cannot wait for Christmas Day and those who cannot wait to be back at work. Whatever you feel, most businesses close over the Christmas break making them an easy target for burglary.
Before you tell us off for being so bah humbug, we wish everyone a peaceful festive break. Still, there is nothing that can ruin your break more than an emergency breakdown or a burglary at your office. Our recommendation is to ensure you have a property maintenance contract in place and secure your property before you go on your merry ways. Here are some tips to help you out:
Lock up your valuables: This may sound like common sense but many business owners overlook obvious steps, such as locking up check books and cashboxes. Make sure all cash and printed materials with bank account numbers, as well as other valuable company property, is stored in a safe or other hardened, secure area and locked.
Look for suspicious activity: Before they strike, burglars will often survey a target business, watching people come and go and observing daily activities to get a feel for when the building or office space will be empty. Be alert to activities in parking lots and other public areas prior to your planned break and report anything suspicious to local authorities.
Use high-tech solutions to combat low-tech crime: Consider security solutions such as motion-detection cameras that record and stream live video to mobile phones. Night vision and two-way audio are additional security layers.
Install Outside Lights: As winter sets in, the days get shorter, and that means more dark hours for thieves to operate in. Consider installing lights in and around your business where there are currently dark spots, in an effort to dissuade potential robbers.
Install high-Security Locks: With the ability to copy keys from photographs, criminals find it easier than ever to enter places they shouldn’t. You can stop this before it begins by installing high-security locks. Whether these locks require keys, key cards, or codes, the most important thing is that they’ll deter thieves.
Check and update your alarm system: The alarm system might even stop a robbery before it begins. Many would-be thieves will stop when they see a building or office has a quality monitoring service because they know the police will arrive soon after the break-in.
We hope you have found this useful and that we did our bit for your peaceful break. We can support your premises security so give us a call if you need some further help.
